West tops East in shootout at AHL All-Star Game

Matt Fraser scored the shootout winner as the Western Conference came back to beat the Eastern Conference 8-7 on Monday night in the AHL's All-Star Game at Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City, N.J.

The East had a 6-2 lead after the first period, but the West rallied and ultimately tied the game when defenseman Kevin Connauton made it 7-7 at 15:53 of the third period.

Abbotsford Heat forward Krys Kolanos also scored for West in the shootout, while none of the East shooters could get the puck past West goaltender Ben Bishop.

Chris Terry led West with two goals and an assist. Darren Haydar, Tyson Barrie, T.J. Hensick and Toronto Marlies forward Ryan Hamilton also scored.

Cory Conacher had two goals and an assist for East. Jonathan Audy-Marchessault had a goal and two assists, while Kyle Palmieri, Casey Cizikas, Andy Miele and Mats Zuccarello also scored.

Bishop made 10 saves on 11 shots in the third period to pick up the win. Matt Hackett allowed six goals on 13 shots in the first period, while Yann Danis stopped all 11 shots he faced in the second.

Tyson Sexsmith suffered the loss, giving up three goals on 11 shots in the third and allowing two goals in the shootout.

Michael Leighton stopped nine of 11 shots in the first period, while Jeff Zatkoff turned aside 17 of 20 in the second.
