Spanish satellite operator Hispasat, together with the companies that make up the project Phidias (Abertis Telecom, Activa Multimedia, Havas Media, Television de Catalunya, Antena 3 Televisión, Access and Spanish universities and UPM-URL LaSalle), has launched two test channels, Phidias1 and Phidias2, via the Hispasat 1E satellite.

The channels aim to provide a platform for experimentation and validation of new technologies that combine traditional broadcasting and broadband networks to deliver personalised content. They also allow users to choose at any time the content they want to see and facilitate the development of new business models in terms of audiovisual content, as well as advanced new ways of advertising.
To watch the channels, users will need a set-top box compatible with the DVB-S2 standard and an internet connection. The channels have built-in web applications and an advanced electronic guide where users can evaluate and recommend future content, or view the highest rated content or highlights.
Hispasat's participation in this project ensures the integration of the satellite in the new multi-TV hybrid networks and the development of new technologies and services associated with digital television of the future.
