Live Premier League football and other sporting events are to entertain passengers on Gulf Air flights from 1 March, following a ground breaking deal between Bahrain's national airline and London-based media company IMG Worldwide.

The new in-flight sports channel, called Sport 24, will also show live action from the Olympics, the Masters, the British Open, Formula 1, Roland Garros and Australian Open tennis tournaments, the Ryder Cup, and German Bundesliga football.

The live sports service will be available via Gulf Air's Sky Hub, which was developed with Panasonic know-how. To begin with, this will only be available for passengers flying on A330 aircraft, either for long haul destinations, or on some intra-Gulf routes.

Sport 24 will also be available on board Norwegian Cruise liners, and the channel's wider availability is also being discussed with other airlines.

"Sport 24 will revolutionise the way passengers watch live sports on airlines and cruise ships. For the first time ever viewers will be able to enjoy the greatest sporting events live while travelling on business or holidaying abroad. Sport fans will no longer have to miss their favourite team, or event on this new dedicated sports channel," said Richard Wise, senior vice president, IMG Media.
