    Brian McDermott: Reading manager

    BRIAN McDERMOTT ON WOLVES RADAR

Wolves are continuing their search to replace sacked manager Mick McCarthy with Reading's Brian McDermott reportedly emerging as a potential new candidate.
Steve Bruce has been the bookmakers' favourite for the past few days after the withdrawal of Alan Curbishley from the race.
But sources indicate McDermott is on the radar of Wolves owner Steve Morgan and chief executive Jez Moxey, although it is unclear whether they have yet firmed up their interest.
The former Arsenal player has moulded the Royals into a promotion chasing side in the npower Championship, despite the sale of striker Shane Long and defender Matt Mills last summer.

McDermott is also on a one-year rolling contract and therefore would not cost huge amounts in compensation if Wolves decide he is the person they want to pursue to succeed McCarthy.
Brighton boss Guy Poyet has also been linked as a possible candidate, although sources close to Wolves have played down the interest in the Uruguayan.
Wolves would also be looking at having to pay a substantial compensation bill as Poyet is less than a season into a five-year contract.
Former Sunderland boss Bruce was the bookmakers' favourites to take over from McCarthy, who was dismissed after a split boardroom vote last Monday.
But Bruce is still waiting to hear if and when he would be granted a second interview after holding initial talks on Friday with Morgan and Moxey.
It does now appear the search for a new manager may extend beyond Saturday's clash at Newcastle, the initial target set my Moxey a week ago.

Curbishley ruled himself out of contention over concerns about how he would be expected to run the club after meeting Morgan and Moxey.
But reports the former Charlton and West Ham manager's interest cooled because he was only offered a deal for the remaining 13 games of this season are wide of the mark.
Neil Warnock has now linked up with Leeds after some initial contact with Wolves.
Morgan is determined that his first managerial appointment will be the right one, with McCarthy already at the helm when he took control of the club.
McCarthy's number two Terry Connor, who has been in charge of training, could now find himself having to take on a caretaker role unless there is a rapid gathering of pace in the managerial search.

Wenger: Needs to improve his squad

    ARSENAL FANS WORRY OVER DIRECTION

Arsenal Supporters Trust fear manager Arsene Wenger may have only around 55million to try to rebuild the squad this summer - even less should the Gunners fail to qualify for the Champions League.
Wenger has seen his position come under severe scrutiny this season more than ever following an appalling start which left them out of the title race before the turn of the year and now in a real scrap to secure a top-four finish.
The Gunners crashed out of the FA Cup at Sunderland on Saturday, which came on the back of an abysmal performance away to AC Milan, where a 4-0 defeat all but ended their Champions League ambitions as their quest for a first trophy since 2005 looks set to continue.
Arsenal's parent holding company, of which American sports magnate Stan Kroenke is now majority shareholder, are set to release interim figures for the past six months.

The last set of financial results published for the year ended May 31, 2011 revealed a significant reserve of 'cash and short-term deposits' at some 160million, which chief executive Ivan Gazidis stressed at the time was "working capital" going forwards, with funds always available to the manager should he wish to use them.
The AST, a group made up of minority stakeholders, has conducted their own detailed breakdown of the latest projected numbers, and believe most of that reserve has already been accounted for, while they also estimate failure to qualify for the Champions League would cost the club around 45m in annual revenues.
The AST, who held a meeting of members on Monday night during which concerns over the direction of the club were raised, are set to put their concerns to the club in search of answers.

A statement read: "The AST recognises that the 50m cash surplus and 35m future property money does provide a safety net for Champions League non-qualification, but there are UEFA Financial Fair Play and club strategy issues that concern our members.
"The AST still seeks a fuller explanation from the new owner as to his vision for the club. Greater engagement by Stan Kroenke (as he committed to in the Takeover prospectus) would help to address this."

Demba Ba: Has impressed at Newcastle

    SULLIVAN REVEALS BA EXIT CLAUSE

West Ham co-owner David Sullivan believes Demba Ba is likely to exit Newcastle this summer, with a clause in his contract set to leave the Magpies short.
The Hammers sold the Senegalese striker to Newcastle last summer, with relegation out of the Premier League forcing their hand.
Ba has been a revelation on Tyneside, with his goals largely responsible for the Magpies' ongoing bid to secure a top-four finish.
His efforts have been welcomed by the St James' Park faithful, making him a firm fans' favourite, but his exploits have not gone unnoticed elsewhere.

Speculation regarding his future and an apparent release clause in his contract first surfaced ahead of the January transfer window, and is expected to return to the fore.
Sullivan has now revealed that were a move to be pushed through, Newcastle would only pocket half of any fee involved.
The rest of the cash will go to Ba, meaning the Magpies could be left with just 3.5million were a rival club to match his 7m release fee.
"They keep denying it, but I think you'll see in the summer he will leave Newcastle or he'll get a monstrous rise to stay there," said Sullivan.

"I'm told he's got a 7m get-out clause and he gets half the money of that.
"If they get about 4m, half will go to him. So if they sell him for 7m, they'll only get about three because they paid his agent 2m to get him out of here."

Edinson Cavani: One of Napoli's star players

    NAPOLI WOULD LISTEN TO OFFERS

Napoli would be prepared to listen to offers for star men Ezequiel Lavezzi, Edinson Cavani and Marek Hamsik.
The trio will be the main threat to Chelsea in Tuesday night's UEFA Champions League last 16 first leg after scoring 35 goals between them this season.
Premier League club Chelsea and table-topping Manchester City have been linked with bids and Napoli owner and film entrepreneur Aurelio Di Laurentiis has not ruled out sales.

"If they have the money to pay, I am waiting for the offers," Di Laurentiis is quoted as saying in the Daily Mirror.
"There is never a real price. The price is what the clubs need and what is the hot moment of negotiation.
"They are all fantastic players. We have a lot of fantastic players. I don't expect anything. Thanks to God, I don't need the money from anyone. I am rich enough to survive.

"But if somebody wants to make an offer, we are here to listen. You never close the door to anyone because we are polite.
"If someone wants to make an offer, they can make an offer. We can laugh off their offer if we are not satisfied or we can say, 'Let's sit down and discuss this'.
"In life, there is always a price for everything. It is just a question of the right moment and the right people."

Robert Green: Mulling over a new deal

    HAMMERS TABLE ROB GREEN OFFER

West Ham co-owner David Sullivan claims the club have put "a fantastic offer" to Robert Green, but appreciates they must be a top-flight side if he is to sign.
The England international was among those to stick with the Hammers following their relegation out of the Premier League last season.
Rumours regarding his future rumbled on throughout the summer of 2011, and again during the recent winter transfer window, but he remains part of the set-up at Upton Park.
He has helped West Ham to place themselves within the promotion-chasing pack in the Championship, with an immediate return to the top tier very much on the cards.

The Hammers know they have to take that step if they are to retain the services of their key men and Green is among those who deserve to be playing at a higher level.
They have put a competitive offer to the 32-year-old shot-stopper, but Sullivan concedes that any decision regarding his future depends on what division the club finding themselves competing in next season.
"Green's contract is up this summer," he said in the Guardian.

"We have made him a fantastic offer, subject to us [getting promoted and] staying in the Premier League.
"But if we don't stay in the Premier League, we won't be able to afford him and he won't want to stay. So we have to go up."

    Ramires: Set for new deal

RAMIRES CLOSE TO NEW CHELSEA DEAL

Ramires is reportedly close to signing a contract extension that would tie him to Chelsea until 2017.
The Brazil midfielder's current deal still has more than two years left to run but the Blues see the 24-year-old very much as part of their long-term plans.
Ramires has been one of Chelsea's standout players in their stuttering season, scoring eight goals and giving them real penetration with his driving runs.
In an area that has often been rotated by manager Andre Villas-Boas, the South American has started more matches this term than any of his midfield team-mates.

He made his return from three weeks out with a knee injury in Saturday's 1-1 FA Cup draw with Birmingham and is in contention to start Tuesday's Champions League last 16 first leg at Napoli.
Ramires joined Chelsea from Benfica at the start of last season in a deal reportedly in the region of 18million after impressing for Brazil during that summer's World Cup.

Brian McDermott: Currently in charge of Reading

WOLVES TO MAKE MOVE FOR McDERMOTT

Wolves are reportedly set to seek permission from Reading to speak to manager Brian McDermott after identifying the 50-year-old as a prime candidate to replace the sacked Mick McCarthy.
The midlands club have altered their stance after initially stating Premier League experience was a vital ingredient for any possible successor to Mick McCarthy.
Former Sunderland, Wigan and Birmingham boss Steve Bruce remains a contender after holding initial talks with Wolves owner Steve Morgan and chief executive Jez Moxey on Friday.

But McDermott is now at the forefront of Wolves' plans although they have denied speculation claiming they have already held talks with the former Arsenal player.
McDermott replaced Brendan Rodgers as Reading caretaker manager in December 2009 and earned the job on a full-time basis the following month after his side achieved a shock FA Cup win over Liverpool.
He led the Royals to the play-off final last season and has mounted another strong promotion challenge this season despite the loss of striker Shane Long and defender Matt Mills in the summer.

McDermott is also likely to have the support in the Wolves dressing room of striker Kevin Doyle and midfielder Stephen Hunt who worked with him at Reading before moving to Molineux.
Wolves chief executive Jez Moxey has maintained a stance of not commenting on specific names on the radar of himself and Morgan.
But it is understood Wolves have distanced themselves from reports linking them with Brighton boss Guy Poyet.
Bruce impressed when meeting Morgan and Moxey but there has been a negative reaction to his possible appointment from some sections of fans.

    Dawson: New deal

    DAWSON SIGNS NEW BAGGIES DEAL

West Brom defender Craig Dawson has signed a new three-and-a-half year contract.
The England Under-21 international joined the Baggies from Rochdale on a three-year deal during the summer of 2010.
He scored twice on his Under-21 debut against Azerbaijan in September 2011 - the same month as he made his first Premier League start.
The new deal ties Dawson to Albion until at least the summer of 2015 although there is the option for a further 12 months in the club's favour.
West Brom head coach Roy Hodgson told the club's official website: "We are very happy that Craig has committed his long-term future to the club.
"Since he joined up with the team at the start of the season, he has been very impressive, both in training and games.

"We believe Craig has got a very bright future as a Premier League player and it's nice that future is going to be with West Brom."
Dawson was still playing non-league football less than three years ago with Radcliffe Borough in the Unibond League.
But he quickly made an impression after joining hometown club Rochdale and helped them to gain promotion to League One before moving to the Hawthorns.
He was immediately loaned back to Rochdale for the 2010-2011 season before starting to make his mark this season with Albion.
Dawson has netted four times in his six appearances for the England Under-21s.

Roberto Mancini: Focused on Porto clash

    MANCINI QUIET ON CARLOS TEVEZ

Manchester City manager Roberto Mancini has refused to say whether he has met or intends to meet Carlos Tevez.
Tevez reported back to the club's training ground last week after spending more than three months in Argentina without the club's permission.
The 28-year-old was given his own fitness programme and did not meet Mancini before the Italian flew to Portugal for last week's Europa League clash with Porto.
With City not in action last weekend, Mancini then gave his players some time off after the Porto game and did not fly back to Manchester with the squad.
Mancini was asked on Tuesday if he had yet met Tevez as he held a press conference to preview the second leg of the last-32 tie against Porto on Wednesday.

But he said: "I am here to talk about Porto."
When asked further if there would be a meeting with the striker, he said: "There is a meeting tomorrow - against Porto."
Mancini has previously said Tevez must apologise for the events of the past four and a half months before he will consider him for selection again.
Tevez has not played for City since he was accused of refusing to warm up during the Champions League defeat at Bayern Munich last September.
The Argentinian flew back to South America in November and hoped to secure a move during last month's transfer window.
With no transfer materialising, he returned to City to fight for his place but caused further controversy by claiming Mancini treated him "like a dog" in a TV interview.
Mancini last week denied he ever treated Tevez badly and said he would not speak about the player for the next three months.
City midfielder Samir Nasri, who also spoke to media on Tuesday, hopes the situation can be resolved and Tevez can rejoin the push for the Barclays Premier League and Europa League titles.

The Frenchman said: "I didn't speak to Carlos.
"I think he is an important player for us and for every team in Europe, because he has quality.
"I don't know what happened. If he has to apologise, then he has to do it and then he will be in the squad, because we need players of his quality to win the league and the Europa League.
"After that it is for the club and Carlos to deal with."

Tomasz Kuszczak: Joins Watford on loan

    TOMASZ KUSZCZAK JOINS WATFORD

Manchester United goalkeeper Tomasz Kuszczak has joined npower Championship side Watford on emergency loan terms for the rest of the season.
The 29-year-old Poland international has made 61 appearances for the Red Devils since arriving in summer 2006 but has not featured for the first team this season, with David De Gea and Anders Lindegaard the first two choices between the posts for manager Sir Alex Ferguson following Edwin van der Sar's retirement.

Kuszczak started his professional career with Hertha Berlin and moved to England in 2004 when he signed for West Brom. He switched to Old Trafford in July 2006, initially on loan from the Baggies before penning a permanent deal the following summer.
Both clubs confirmed the deal this morning, with Watford adding that he will wear the number 35 shirt and was taking part in his first training session this afternoon.
Kuszczak will battle for the gloves with former England Under-21 keeper Scott Loach, who has played in 31 of the Hornets' 35 games so far this term.
