Three quarters of French households, a total of 20 million TV homes, are now equipped with a HDTV compatible TV set, new research from Mediamétrie-GfK has revealed.
Looking at the last quarter of 2011, the "Référence des équipements" survey found that HDTV growth in the country is rapid, gaining 10 percentage points over one year.
Over the last three years, the number of homes equipped with HDTV has more than doubled, an increase of 140% to be exact.
The success of HDTV is due to several factors, Mediamétrie and GfK point out, including the growth of the programming line-up in high definition and the decreasing price of HDTV sets.
"HD TV now touches a larger audience, including more women (23.4%) and seniors (23.6%)," Mediamétrie added, "Families with at least one child under 15 are also more equipped than other homes (27%)."
