Audiovisuel Extérieur de la France (AEF) international news channel France 24, radio stations RFI and Monte Carlo Doualiya have been found to have notched up a combined weekly audience of over 90 million viewers and listeners.
This represents a two-fold growth in audience compared with the situation in 2008 with exceptional growth displayed by France 24 whose weekly audience has quadrupled, rising to 43.5 million viewers.
According to the holding, this "success" is largely due to the emergence of "a highly competitive Arabic international news service."
Since October 2010, and the launch of France 24 in Arabic, the channel has tripled its audience in the Maghreb region and has become the leading French channel in Algeria, Morocco and Tunisia.
In Francophonic Africa, AEF’s media assets are also said to have also become "extremely popular."
Only five years since its inception, France has become "the leading 24/7 international news channel in several African countries with a weekly audience of 19 million viewers."
The group’s channels have also made significant progress on the internet and across other new media platforms. In total in 2011 nearly 200 million Internet users visited the France 24, RFI and Monte Carlo Doualiya’s websites.
