Germany's public broadcasters ARD and ZDF will screen all important games of the European Football Championship 2016 live on free-to-air television.

SportA, the broadcasters' sports rights agency, has reached this agreement with European football association UEFA.

The licence package of which financial details have not been disclosed contains the live broadcast rights to all matches as well as comprehensive time-shifted coverage. ARD's radio stations will also be able to transmit all games.

At the tournament, which will take place in France in June and July 2016, for the first time 24 instead of 16 teams will participate and play 51 instead of the usual 31 games.

ARD and ZDF will also show all key matches of the European Football Cup 2012 on free-to-air television in Germany. The contract signature with UEFA was announced in early 2010.
