Over the last year, French telco Orange has claimed 250,000 French newcomers to its Orange TV offer, to total 4.374 million digital TV subscribers.

Of these, 2.113 million are also subscribing to pay-TV channels including 771,000 to either Orange Sport or Orange cinéma séries (up 52,000 over one year).
Out the 9.475 million IPTV broadband subscribers, 95,000 are connected to FTTH, which is a 13,000 rise compared to 2010. Orange’s ADSL market share for the year in France amounted to 30.5% last year with the consumer mobile market share stabilised at about 40% and the Open quadruple-play offers gained 1.2 million customers by 31 December 2011.
In posting its 2011 annual results, French telco recognised it had suffered more than expected from the general economical context. Its net profit fell 20% to €3.8 billion at 31 December of 2011.
Consolidated revenues were €45.277 billion down 0.5% compared with 2010 and restated EBITDA was €15.083 billion with erosion in the restated EBITDA margin (33.3%) limited to -1.1 points. Net debt was €32.331 billion at year end
Analysts comment the group was largely affected by poor performances in France and Poland. Competitive pressure in France is also becoming more and more threatening with the arrival of the fourth mobile low cost operator, Free Mobile, in January 2012. “As operations in France claim close to 50% of its total revenues, the situation in the Group’s domestic market may be more worrying than initially thought,” added Panos Loukos, Senior Analyst at Informa Telecoms & Media.
