Airtel claims to have launched the fastest internet service in Kenya with the introduction of its new 3.75G mobile network, capable of supporting video streaming and mobile TV.
"The technology on our 3.75G network will give our customers the opportunity to interact with data in a different way," said Shivan Bhargava, chief operating officer, Airtel Kenya.
"This is why Airtel doesn't see 3G as a product but a platform that enables the community to expand its social and commercial horizons, alongside the rest of the world."
The new 3.75G network is now available to Airtel customers in the commercial centres of Nairobi, Mombasa, Nakuru, Kisumu, Eldoret and Naivasha, and will be rolled out across the entire country in time.
Customers wishing to benefit from video calls, live TV, emails, and music downloads on their mobile devices be offered a free seven day trial without charge during the first 15 days of operation, according to Airtel Kenya.
Bharti Airtel, its Delhi-based parent company, now boasts over 244 million customers across its global operations.
