German commercial free-to-air channel ProSieben will get its pay-TV sister service in early May 2012: ProSieben Fun will screen ProSieben's most successful show and comedy formats, practically as German TV debuts.
The 24 hour schedule will also comprises blockbuster movies, US series, music shows and action sports events. ProSieben Fun, which targets a young audience, will initially be carried by German telco Deutsche Telekom on its IPTV platform Entertain. Negotiations are underway with further platform providers, a ProSiebenSat.1 spokesman told Rapid TV News.
ProSiebenSat.1's existing pay-TV channel Sat.1 Comedy will be renamed Sat.1 Emotions at the same time to differentiate itself more strongly from ProSieben Fun. Instead of comedy, the channel will then be devoted to dreams, passion, romance and love. The 24 hour schedule will comprise movies for the whole family, partially as German TV debuts.
The group's third pay-TV channel kabel eins classics won't be affected by the changes and will continue to show classic movies and series. Sat.1 Emotions and kabel eins classics will remain available on the platforms curently carrying the services. What's new is that ProSiebenSat.1 will offer all three pay-TV channels to platform operators as high-definition (HD) simulcats from May 2012. Telekom will be the first platform provider to carry the three channels in HD from May.
ProSiebenSat.1's plans for ProSieben Fun, Sat.1 Emotions and the HD services became known in November 2011.
