The ImaginLab platform, by Brittany's Images & Réseaux is to trial broadcasts under the new digital TV DVB-T2 standard in Q2 of 2012.
Broadcast services group TDF has been selected to serve as the technical operator and the new standard will be tested in the city of Rennes aiming to look at how DTT addresses the need for new services and better operational efficiency.
French regulatory body CSA has recommended the migration of MPEG-4 (instead of DVB-T/MPEG2) to be effective by the end of 2015, while all DTT TV channels will have to achieve their DVB-T2/MPEG4 migration for 2020.
The ImaginLab platform is the first of its kind in France and is called to answer to numerous research, product development and deployment issues that are still pending as far as the DVB-T2 norm is concerned.
