As it battles to stay ahead of not just traditional but also new media channels, ITV has launched a 24 hour rolling news site which it says will provide video rich real time news for the digital age.
Launched in beta form in time for the UK budget announcement, the news is optimised for use on mobiles and tablets, drawing on ITV’s national and regional news gathering operation. This says the company will offer journalists from across ITV’s network of UK newsrooms, the tools they need to quickly and efficiently break news and update stories online from wherever they are based.
The site has been created in partnership with digital innovation and service design experts Made by Many and incorporates a rolling news timeline that will feature not only content created by ITV News journalists, but also conversations happening around breaking news on other sites and platforms such as Twitter.
Commented Michael Jermey, Director of News and Current Affairs: “Our digital news service will give people a great new way to follow breaking news wherever they are. It will offer fantastic broadcast quality video and will cover not only the top national and international news of the day but will also provide a strong regional service.”
Added Julian March, Head of Digital Media, ITV News & Sport, said: “ITV News is a vast 24 hour news gathering machine packed with breaking news content and exclusives from award winning journalists. We are therefore incredibly excited about creating a platform which allows us to begin to unleash the full power of that machine in the digital space. The new site is all about providing real-time news for the digital age and enabling our quality journalism to reach an even wider audience online and on demand.”
