The merger of the Spanish national private channels Grupo Planeta's Antena 3 and Mediapro's laSexta will culminate on 25 April, the date set for holding Antena 3’s AGM.
The approval of the merger on the shareholders' meeting is the last step of this integration process following agreement for the integration of the two companies last December. For the transfer of all their assets laSexta shareholders will receive 7% of the share capital of the new Grupo Antena 3, and at the same time Antena 3 will carry out this exchange to increase its capital by issuing new shares.
The new television network in which each channel intends to maintain its personality, has eight channels: four of Antena 3 (Antena 3 Neox, Nova and Nitro) and four of the Sixth (the Sixth 1, The Sixth 2, 3 The Sixth , Gol TV (pay-TV).
The merger of Antena 3 and laSexta completes the map of the present Spanish television sector, which has undergone a deep reorganisation in recent years due to the different laws that have come into force and especially the introduction of DTT. But it also means that only two big TV groups will control most of the advertising sector, something that has caused the concerned smaller TV companies and also of the Communication User Association (AUC).
