Broadcast facilities company Media Broadcast is launching a DVB-S2 platform on the Astra 3 position at 23.5 degrees East.
Using the European wide beam of the satellite, the new distribution platform is beamed at Central and Eastern Europe with a focus on the Czech and Slovak republics.
The first broadcasters making use of the new platform are the media services of the German parliament (the Bundestag) and the new Czech TV HD channel. Carriage of Czech TV HD is intended for distribution to local Czech cable TV operators, as well as DTH reception of the 1.5 million satellite homes in the country.
The launch for DVB-S2 services on Astra 23.5 degrees East is an important step for Media Broadcast providing emerging TV markets in Eastern Europe with efficient transmission services for SD-HD migration that best use the bandwidths available on the transponder, said Dr. Ute Haimerl, head of broadcast satellite services. In doing this, we are creating an additional technical foundation for the sustainable promotion of our international activities in these important European markets.
Media Broadcast also said it is in concrete talks with other broadcasters to use the new DVB-S2 transmission platform.
