French broadcaster TF1 has introduced its first international English-speaking production, entitled Le Grand.
This 8-episodes cop series will also be the first entirely shot in Paris and will star Jean Reno who will play an implacable and meticulous elite cop who stops at nothing to solve mysterious murder cases. Based on an idea from French producer Atlantique Productions from Lagardčre Entertainment, the series has been created by Law & Order’s rights holder René Balcer, along with French authors Malina Detcheva and Franck Ollivier.
Germany’s SevenOne International has secured the distribution rights and is looking for broadcasters pre-sales at Mip TV. Interest has already been expressed in Italy, Germany and the US. The budget of the series amounts to €16 million, including €900,000 per episode brought by TF1.
While Takis Candilis, President of Lagardčre Entertainment, stressed the importance to bring French programmes to the international market with actor Jean Reno, who will appear for the first time ever in a TV series, is taking his role as “a very attractive challenge”. “I’m seduced by the recurrent character Paris will be in this series that will get a Da Vinci Code atmosphere too”.
