Vimond Media Solutions has gained the DRM seal of approval of Google in its certified Widevine implementation partner (CWIP) programme.
Based in Bergen, Norway, Vimond is a spin off from national broadcaster TV 2, together with Vizrt, StormGeo, and Mosart Medialab.
As a CWIP, Vimond is able to integrate Google's Widevine DRM technology into its range of over the top (OTT) video services, enabling its customers to protect and distribute content across multiple platforms and devices. The DRM system is currently deployed on more than 365 million devices, including 250 million TVs, Blu-ray players, set-top boxes, and game consoles.
Vimond claims to be one of a very small number of CWIPs in the Nordic market with practical experience deploying services. "We are very happy to expand our relationship with Google for the use of Widevine," said Helge Høibraaten, CEO of Vimond. "This is a technology we know well and have implemented before, and we believe it will be used more as connected devices become more popular and content becomes more ubiquitous."
As a result of the partnership, Vimond customers can opt to deploy a DRM technology in their Vimond-enabled services, available on mobile devices or anywhere in a connected home.
