Brazilian video portal Globo.com has turned to Octoshape to be better able to sustain high-quality video over the Web and deliver a more consistent viewing experience across varying sizes of broadband connection.
Globo is implementing Octoshape's Infinite HD technology to meet those goals. The stakes are high: Globo.com offers content from Rede Globo, Editora Globo, Globosat, Infoglobo and Globoradio - and is among Brazil's biggest portals, attracting about 29 million unique visitors per month. With a strategy focused in three pillars of content: sports, journalism and entertainment, the portal offers a range of dedicated sites as well, like G1, Globoesporte.com, Ego, Paparazzo, TechTudo, Receitas.com and Big Brother Brasil, in addition to other online tools such as Globomail.
"The quality of our content offerings has historically been the key to our success at Globo.com," said Jacques Varaschim, director of technology and operations at Globo.com. "The partnership with Octoshape allows us to extend the quality our consumers expect to a broad audience over the Internet and also makes it possible to measure Globo.com user satisfaction in relation to the services offered over the Internet."
Infinite HD technology uses a suite of patented technologies and algorithms for video streaming optimisation to eliminate buffering for an instant-on experience that best utilises network resources, the companies said.
"We look forward to starting the partnership with Globo to improve the user experience and to offer the Brazilian consumer the best quality content and entertainment experience possible," said Michael Koehn Milland, CEO of Octoshape.
