As part of its strategy to focus on premium media solutions, online video platform provider Brightcove has become a Certified Widevine Implementation Partner and unveiled a new Video Paywall Solution Framework.
The company is enjoying a surge of interest in secure online video services given users’ general increasing willingness to pay for content, especially that is played out on devices such as tablets. It believes that the two agreements will mean it can create a robust foundation for digital media publishers to roll out revenue-generating pay media services across smartphones, tablets, PCs, and smart TVs.
With that in mind the announcement with Widevine will, says the company, open the door for its online video platform customers to package, securely distribute, and protect playback of video content on more than 440 million consumer electronics devices through Google’s multi-platform digital rights management (DRM) which supports more than 270 million televisions, Blu-ray players, set-top boxes, and game consoles.
Developed in conjunction with PayWizard, the new The Brightcove Video Paywall Solution Framework is designed to empower customers to provide a fully-branded consumer experience for delivering subscription or pay-per-view access to paid video content and viewing the purchased content across PCs, smart phones, tablets, smart TVs, and over-the-top (OTT) devices.
Registration and authentication controls subscriber log-in and access with payment processing to help process subscription and pay-per-view fees. User management capabilities store subscriber information and permissions and cross-Platform DRM allows adherence to rights and licensing agreements across multiple device platforms. Indeed at NAB Brightcove successful demonstrated running the system seamlessly across a smart TV and iPad.
“Media publishers are under pressure to offer paid access to their premium video content, but many are struggling to identify and knit together all the technologies that are required to deliver a great multi-screen consumer experience,” said Eric Elia, vice president of TV solutions at Brightcove. “Our new solution framework pulls together all the building blocks from multiple vendors into a state-of-the-art system that sells, delivers and protects content across PCs, smart phones, tablets, and connected TVs.”
