VRT names new channel Ketnet Op12
By Robert Briel
Belgian public broadcaster VRT has unveiled the name of the new fulltime Ketnet channel. After 20.00 the channel will be known as Ketnet Op 12.
VRT is expanding its number of networks from two to three by separating kids channel Ketnet from its second channel Canvas. As of May 1, the combined Ketnet/Canvas channel will continue to be available as a simulcast on two different frequencies. After two weeks, Ketnet and Canvas will each have their own, separate programming.
VRT said it has chosen the name Ketnet Op 12 for all programming after 20.00. During daytime, Ketnet will focus on younger kids, while in the evenings older youth will be targeted as well as foreigners living in Flanders, the broadcaster said.
The new channels will be available as part of the VRT DTT mux, on all cable and IPTV platforms in the country as well as on the DTH platform TV Vlaanderen. In the Netherlands, most providers including cablers Ziggo and UPC and DTH platform Canal Digitaal said they will carry the new channel. However, DTT provider Digitenne will not distribute the third VRT channel, but will stick to the first two channels.
