German men's channel DMAX will launch a high-definition simulcast on 1 May 2012. DMAX HD will be available to German DTH households through HD platform HD+ on Astra (19.2° East).

HD+ will then offer the HD versions of a total of 14 commercial free-to-air channels which satellite viewers can subscribe to for a yearly fee of €50. The first 12 months are free-of-charge.

In addition to DMAX HD, Super RTL HD will also launch on HD+ on 1 May. The same channels remain available unencrypted and free-of-charge in standard definition on Astra.

DMAX launched on 1 September 2006 as Discovery Communications’s first free-to-air channel. With documentaries, reports and entertainment programmes such as "Der Checker" and "Top Gear", the advertising-financed channel targets men between 14 and 49 years of age.
