Germany's largest cable operator Kabel Deutschland will add pay-TV channels AXN HD, Cartoon Network HD and Kinowelt TV HD to its cable network in autumn 2012. The distribution will be within subscription package "Premium HD", the company announced in Munich.
The channel IDs will become available on the electronic programme guide (EPG) on the HD-PVRs and digital receivers provided by Kabel Deutschland in the forthcoming months. On the individual channel slots, caption texts will inform viewers about the upcoming new HD services.
Kabel Deutschland will also switch on captions of RTL group's HD channels on its EPG. A launch date can, however, not currently be announced, says the cable company, as this would depend on the result of the negotiations with the commercial broadcast group currently taking place.
AXN HD offers action and entertainment for thriller and crime series fans while Kinowelt TV HD targets movie buffs and arthouse film lovers with high-quality movies. AXN HD is currently only carried by Deutsche Telekom on its IPTV platform Entertain. Kinowelt TV HD will launch on 29 May 2012 and initially only be available on Unitymedia's cable network.
Children's channel Cartoon Network, which is currently just offered in standard definition in Germany, will launch its HD simulcast in October 2012. Parent company Turner Broadcasting System Deutschland announced the carriage deal for Cartoon Network HD with Kabel Deutschland in September 2011.
