The customers of Germany's second-largest cable operator Unitymedia will gain four new Sky HD channels: The company will add Sky Sport HD2, Sky Sport News HD, Sky Cinema HD and Sky Atlantic HD by early June 2012.

Following several years of negotiations, Unitymedia and Sky Deutschland have now agreed on a long-term carriage and marketing collaboration. The cable operator has so far only been distributing a single channel - Sky Sport HD1 - from the pay-TV broadcaster's extensive HD line-up.

As part of the agreement, Kabel BW will carry new channel Sky Atlantic HD from its launch day on 23 May 2012 on its network. Both Unitymedia and Kabel BW are owned by US media company Liberty Global.

Further Sky HD channels will be added in the forthcoming months: Unitymedia will distribute a total of up to 15 and Kabel BW up to 18 Sky HD channels by the end of 2012 with Unitymedia starting to carry football channel Sky Fußball-Bundesliga among other services.

Furthermore, Unitymedia's cable customers will - just like Kabel BW's customers - in future be able to directly sign up for Sky subscriptions through the cable operator. To win Sky customers, all three companies plan extensive marketing campaigns. The new agreement will replace Kabel BW's old Sky contract.
