French video market retreats 11.8%

French viewers spent €282.41 million to buy video or Blu-ray discs in the first quarter of 2012, reveals a new study from CNC-GfK.
The study found that household spending thus decreased 11.8% compared to the same period of 2011 with a detailed breakdown showing that €228.67 million was attributable to DVD sales (down 17%) while Blu-ray was still progressing with sales up 20.3% to €53.73 million. For the first three months, Blu-ray represented 19% of the global video revenues compared with 13.9% a year ago.
Over the last twelve months—from April 2011 to 2012—the video sales turnover decreased 10.5% to €1.219 billon.
