Sky Germany continues to grow

German pay-TV broadcaster Sky Deutschland has increased its subscriber number in Q1 2012 by 73,000 to a total of 3.085 million.
The additions remained on the same level as in Q1 2011 while turnover rose by 18% to €318 million compared with Q1 2011. The loss in the operative business (EBITDA) was reduced by 26% to €41 million. Below the line, a loss of €75 million remained. In Q1 2011, the net loss amounted to €87 million.
Demand was particularly strong for the Premium HD channels which topped the 1million subscriber mark for the first time. In Q1 2012, a total of 97,000 customers opted for Sky HD, corresponding with an increase by 37% compared with Q1 2011. The total number of Sky Premium HD subscribers rose by 61% to 1.071 million (Q1 2011: 664,000). This means that more than one third of all Sky households are now subscribers of the Sky Premium HD service.Sky HD households can currently receive 55 HDTV channels on Astra (19.2° East). It is planned to increase the number to up to 60 channels in the course of this year with the next additions being Sky Atlantic HD on 23 May 2012 and TNT Serie HD in June 2012.
