In somewhat of a departure for a company most known for content protection, Irdeto has been chosen by GlobeCast to provide end-to-end broadband and customer care and billing solutions for the latter’s MyGlobeTV platform.
Scheduled for a July commercial launch, MyGlobeTV is an over-the-top (OTT) platform for broadcasters to offer international and genre-based content directly to subscribers and which its maker says requires customised, end-to-end flexible and scalable broadband and customer care and billing solutions to make it a reality.
“MyGlobeTV is designed to meet the growing demand of consumers for anytime-anywhere viewing on any connected device, and to ensure a seamless move in this direction, we needed a partner with proven experience in the broadcast and broadband environment,” expained Emma Brackett, VP of Consumer Products and Services at content management delivery company GlobeCast.
“By utilising Irdeto Broadband solutions, we can offer our customers secure connectivity to MyGlobeTV across a range of devices so they can enjoy their favourite content anywhere, whether through their MyGlobeTV set-top box, or through the future web-based application.”
In addition GlobeCast will make use of Irdeto’s traditional content protection technology as well as services that will support monetisation of premium content on broadband-connected devices, relying on an interface to configure content-viewing rules and support its business model. The Irdeto solutions are said to be applicable to virtually all business models, including subscription-based, pay-per-view, video on-demand (VOD), ad-supported and pay-to-own. This will allows OTT content providers, such as GlobeCast, to experiment with different services and determine the best recipe for monetizing their content across multiple distribution methods.
