Univision growth bucks US networks ratings trend

Hispanic programming continues to flex its muscle as Univision Network came in as one of the only US broadcast networks to show ratings growth in the May 2012 sweep period.
According to Nielsen, ratings were up 1% among in the coveted adults 18-49 demographic year over year. Univision subsidiary TeleFutura Network showed growth as well, 24%, while all other top 10 English- or Spanish-language broadcast networks saw declines.
The two-hour finale of popular telenovela Una Familia Con Suerte (A Fortunate Family) drew 8.8 million total viewers 2+, making the network the No. 2 most-watched broadcaster in the time period and for the night among adults 18-34, behind only the American Idol finale on FOX. The network was also No. 3 in the time period and during broadcast primetime, beating CBS, NBC and the CW among adults 18-49. And, it helped Univision finish as the No. 4 broadcast network overall, beating NBC among total viewers 2+ for the entire night.
Univision local affiliates meanwhile ranked as No. 1 in Los Angeles, Houston, Dallas, Phoenix and Sacramento in total day viewing, regardless of language.
