Premium Indian films and TV shows can now be streamed to Apple mobile devices from the new online entertainment service Spuul, following the launch of a free iOS application.
"Smartphones and tablets are revolutionizing video consumption habits today. We believe that the Spuul app addresses a critical need for easy access to Indian content," said S Mohan, co-founder, Spuul.
"The initial response has been tremendous. Since the app's launch a few days ago, 70% of our current users are now watching Spuul on mobile and the number of movies watched has gone up by 500%! We are thrilled that consumers and advertisers are enthusiastically embracing our app," he added.
Rockstar, Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara and Sholay are among the new Bollywood blockbusters on offer via the video streaming service, with Vicky Donor and Devdas coming soon. Over 100 titles are offered for free, with others charged at US$0.99 per movie for 72 hours of unlimited viewing. In addition, a premium subscription is available for an introductory price of $4.99 a month.
One attractive function allows users' playback positions to be saved between different devices. So for example, if a movie is paused on an iPhone, viewing can be resumed from the same point on an iPad or computer.
Sudesh Iyer, founder of Sony Entertainment TV in India, and S Mohan, founder of Palo Alto-based Accellion, buUuk and other technology and venture companies, are behind the new video streaming service for Indian content.
The Spuul app for iPhone, iPad, and iPod Touch runs on iOS version 4.3 or later. It is available to download from the Apple App Store or at http://spuul.in/MkyTKQ.
