Billionaire George Soros has been approved by Anatel, Brazil’s telecoms regulator, to take control of local pay-TV operator Sunrise Telecomunicaçoes. Sunrise operates in 12 regions in the state of Săo Paulo.
The move comes as the country is prepping to auction sought-after 4G broadcast licences for expanding mobile broadband pay-TV penetration.
According to Brazilian newspaper Valor Economico, the takeover will require an investment of $250 million.
