CNT, Ecuador’s state telecommunications company, has reached 13,200 pay-TV subscribers.

The company was launched nationwide in November 2011, and also offers telephone and Internet services, both fixed and mobile.

CNT TV has a minimum payment of $15 for 45 channels, and expects to reach a subscriber base of 30,000 to 40,000 by the end of 2012, according to César Regalado, the company’s general manager, speaking at the launch of the service.

The satellite (DTH) service enabled the telco to compete in the pay-TV market in Ecuador, competing with DirecTV DTH, TVCable, Cable Univisa Union and On Cable TV - the four companies that control 77% of the market.

At the end of first quarter, Ecuador had 441,146 pay-TV subscribers, served by 261 operators, according to the latest report published by the Superintendency of Telecommunications (SUPERTEL). This equates to a service penetration of 12.8% of the population.
