German technical services company Media Broadcast is to provide cable operators, city carriers, energy suppliers and other network operators with TV and radio packages in future.

The cable TV service, which will be presented at next week's ANGA Cable trade fair in Cologne for the first time, will contain more than 250 TV and radio channels and packages tailor-made for the individual customers.

Media Broadcast will handle the whole signal chain from the reception of the channels to the feeding to network operators' head-ends for distribution to their customers.

The core part is Media Broadcast's teleport in Usingen near Frankfurt, where the signals are received via satellite or broadband lines, processed and sent on to network operators. Local head-ends will complement the infrastructure in future.

Media Broadcast wants to launch its B2B cable TV service in August 2012. As the next steps, hybrid TV services for DVB-C and further IP-based products will follow.

With this move, the subsidiary of the French TDF Group will move into competition with large cable operators such as Kabel Deutschland and Unitymedia which deliver TV and radio packages to smaller network operators and other B2B cable providers such as Eutelsat's direct-to-cable platform KabelKiosk and national telco Deutsche Telekom which recently commenced offering channel packages to cable companies and housing associations.
