Germany's largest cable operator Kabel Deutschland has continued to gain new customers for its digital services in the business year 2011/12.
The number of internet and telephony customers rose by 18.2% to 1.63 million while the number of premium TV subscriptions (pay-TV and HD PVR) grew by 32.9% to 1.68 million.
On 31 March 2012, the Munich-based company had a total of 8.55 million customers (2011: 8.75 million). 83% of the cable network has now been upgraded for internet and telephony. The DOCSIS 3.0 standard which enables an internet data rate of more than 100 Mbps has been rolled out to 77% of the network.
Kabel Deutschland expects that the cartel office Bundeskartellamt will reach a decision on its planned take-over of smaller cable operator Tele Columbus in Q4 2012. If the deal is approved, the merger will take place in Q1 2013.
