YouTube to launch French web TV channels

YouTube is about to launch a number of themed web TV in France before the end of 2012, Google France has confirmed to French daily Le Figaro.
According to the daily, there would be 13 free channels covering a wide range of genres such as entertainment, cooking, family, culture or health.
The paper adds that YouTube has launched a call for bids among French content houses and producers. They will receive an average of €500,000 for 20 programming hours at least by year. Several producers are reported to have been selected including Endemol, Kabo, Capa, Troisième Œil.
A month ago, YouTube launched a call for bids in the UK among TV producers to create original channels.
