Liberty Cablevision has acquired Puerto Rico’s largest cable operator OneLink Communications.

The transaction, whose terms were not disclosed, was the result of an agreement between Liberty Global and Searchlight to buy San Juan Cable, operator of OneLink.

Mauricio Ramos, president of Liberty Global Latin America, said: "This transaction will make us the leading provider of cable services in Puerto Rico, to approximately 70% of cable households in the island, and substantially increasing our existing operations here."

Until the deal is concluded formally, both companies will continue to operate independently. Then they will merge as Liberty Cablevision of Puerto Rico, which will allow existing customers to access OneLink internet bundled services with up to 30Mbps download and 2Mbps upload, 352 pay-TV channels including 75 HD channels, a better balance of programmes in English and Spanish, and digital telephony.
