    VDV pledges future to Spurs

Dutchman aiming to win the title with Tottenham
    Last Updated: July 18, 2012 6:09am

Rafael van der Vaart: Wants to stay at Spurs

Tottenham's Rafael van der Vaart says he has no plans to leave the club this summer and is targeting a top four finish.
The 29-year-old Holland international has been linked with a move away from White Hart Lane following the dismissal of manager Harry Redknapp last month.

But he has played down such talk and insisted the future is bright under new boss Andre Villas-Boas.
He said in The Sun: "My place is at Spurs. I want to win the title with this club. Each summer my name appears in the transfer market.
"The race for the top four will be a total war from the very first day."
Van der Vaart, who joined the north London club two years ago from Real Madrid, added: "The new coach has good plans for me and this is important.

"I have heard excellent reports about AVB.
"We have very good attacking players and if AVB imposes an offensive system the team could be a real spectacle."

    Tigers hope for Faye deal

Bruce waiting for experienced defender to make a decision
    Last Updated: July 18, 2012 8:42am

Abdoulaye Faye: Former West Ham defender has held talks over a move to Hull City

Hull City manager Steve Bruce has confirmed he is hoping to finalise the signing of veteran defender Abdoulaye Faye on a free transfer.
Faye spent last season at West Ham United, but the 34-year-old left Upton Park following the club's return to the Premier League.
He has emerged as a target for the Tigers as Bruce looks to build a squad capable of making a push for promotion back to the top flight.

Bruce has held talks with the former Bolton Wanderers centre-half and is waiting for Faye to make a decision on the offer of a deal at the KC Stadium.
"Yes, we've been speaking with Abdoulaye Faye and we hope we can conclude a deal," said Bruce in the Hull Daily Mail.
"We hope to get an answer in the next 24 or 48 hours."

    Wigan reject third Moses bid
    Last Updated: July 18 2012, 8:14 BST

Wigan Athletic chairman Dave Whelan claims he has rejected a third bid from Chelsea for Victor Moses after again urging the winger to stay at the DW Stadium.

Victor Moses: Three Chelsea bids rejected
Moses has just one year left on his contract at Wigan and the 21-year-old has been linked with a summer move to several fellow Premier League clubs.
Chelsea appear to be leading the chase for the former Crystal Palace youngster and an initial offer of 3.5million was quickly turned down by the Latics.

Reports claim that the European champions' latest bid was 5million, but Whelan is adamant that Moses will not leave the club on the cheap.
Whelan is prepared to listen to any further offers for Moses, but is not giving up hope that he can persuade the attacker to stay with Roberto Martinez's side for at least another season.
"They've made three bids and we've not accepted any," said Whelan in The Sun. "We're still hoping that he signs an extended deal.

"They've all come in the last three weeks, but they've not offered enough.
"I don't know if they'll bid again, but if they do we always listen. And if it is what Roberto believes he is worth then we will take it from there.
"If the lad had any brains he'd stay under Roberto for another year or so."

    De Jong signs for Gladbach

Twente forward finally completes Bundesliga switch
    Last Updated: July 18, 2012 11:16am

Luuk De Jong: Has completed his transfer to Borussia Monchengladbach

Borussia Monchengladbach have completed the signing of Dutch striker Luuk de Jong from FC Twente on a five-year deal.
The transfer has appeared inevitable since De Jong stated his desire to move to Bundesliga side Gladbach and not fellow suitors Newcastle last week.

But the move was finally completed when the 21-year-old successfully passed a medical on Tuesday evening and signed the contract the following morning.
The Holland international was Gladbach's main transfer target this summer as they look to strengthen ahead of their UEFA Champions League campaign.
De Jong scored 39 goals in 75 appearances for Twente as well as gaining experience in Europe with the Eredivisie side and that has been highlighted as a factor in the purchase.

"With Luuk de Jong, we are getting a highly-talented attacker who, despite being only 21, already has a wealth of experience in Europe with FC Twente and the Dutch national team," said Gladbach's director of sport Max Eberl.
"We are really delighted that this transfer has finally gone through. Luuk will be able to travel with us into our training camp at Tegernsee on Friday."

    Freiburg bring in Hedenstad

Norway international expected to develop further in the Bundesliga
    Last Updated: July 18, 2012 11:16am

Vegar Eggen Hedenstad: Norway international has joined Freiburg from Stabaek

Freiburg have bolstered their squad for next signing after signing Norway international defender Vegar Eggen Hedenstad from Stabaek IF for an undisclosed fee.
The 21-year-old has appeared 15 times for Norway's Under 21s and recently made the step up into the senior squad, earning two caps so far this year.

The full-back successfully completed a medical at Freiburg on Tuesday and signed a contract with the Bundesliga club before joining them in their training camp in Schruns.
"With Vegar Eggen Hedenstad, we have found a player who can help us as a full-back," commented Freiburg's director of sport Dirk Dufner who brokered the deal.

"He is regarded as a major talent in Scandinavia with an outstanding amount of experience with 96 league appearances.
"Now he will get the chance to develop further with us in the Bundesliga."

    Terriers keen on Gerrard

Defender on the radar of Huddersfield
    Last Updated: July 18, 2012 11:18am

Anthony Gerrard: Understood to have attracted the attention of Huddersfield

Sky Sports understands that Huddersfield are leading the race to sign defender Anthony Gerrard from Cardiff.
It is thought that Gerrard could be surplus to requirements in the Welsh capital this season after surprisingly struggling to hold down a regular place in Malky Mackay's starting XI last term.

He remains very highly regarded and a number of clubs, including Blackburn, have been linked with a move for the 26-year-old.
But it is Huddersfield who are believed to be in pole position to secure his signature, as Simon Grayson prepares for life in the Championship after winning promotion last season.

If a deal for Gerrard can be agreed it would be a major coup for the Terriers, as he would bring with him plenty of experience.
Gerrard has been at Cardiff since 2009 and has also had spells with a number of other clubs including Hull City and Everton.

    Zola pleased with trialists

Abdi and Pudil feature in pre-season friendly
    Last Updated: July 18, 2012 3:05pm

Almen Abdi: On trial at Watford from Udinese

Watford manager Gianfranco Zola cast his eye over trialists Almen Abdi and Daniel Pudil during the Hornets' pre-season friendly draw with Boreham Wood on Tuesday night.
Swiss international midfielder Abdi of Udinese and Granada's Czech Republic winger Pudil are both hoping to impress at Vicarage Road as they look to win summer moves.

Zola was encouraged by what he saw from the duo following Tuesday's 1-1 draw against the non-league side.
He told the club's official website: "With Abdi, he was literally only with us for a couple of days before tonight's game.
"He has done well; I think you can see he is a good player."
The manager added: "Pudil also, he has shown good qualities so that is encouraging."
Pudil's fellow Czech Matej Vydra, also of Udinese, is another player training with Watford but did not feature at Meadow Park.
    Targets

The Hornets have been linked with a host of targets this summer with several Italian players, including veteran striker Filippo Inzaghi, thought to be on their radar.
But Zola, who took over as manager earlier this summer, insists he will not be distracted by the transfer talk surrounding the club.
He added: "I'm concentrating on the group here with me now. Of course that might change, with people arriving and leaving, but we will deal with those things when the time is right.

"I am not a big one for talking about situations until they are official but I know there is a lot of speculation about Watford right now.
"Sometimes it is nice to be talked about because it means we are trying to be ambitious. The owners and the club want the best for Watford, so this is a good base to go forward from.
"We're all working closely together to make Watford successful. That's what everyone wants and it is our focus."

    Lennon targets defender

Celtic manager admits his team must be really well conditioned
    Last Updated: July 18, 2012 2:59pm

Neil Lennon: Celtic manager is eyeing up a new centre-half to boost his squad's numbers

Celtic boss Neil Lennon admits signing a central defender is his top transfer target for the new season.
The Northern Irishman has seen his rearguard depleted over the summer with the departures of Darren O'Dea, Glenn Loovens and Daniel Majstorovic.

And following a less-than-convincing tour of Germany, where Celtic drew one, lost one and won one, Lennon is aware of his side's deficiencies.
With a Champions League qualifier on the horizon, Lennon said: "We are going into a level where we need to be really well conditioned, particularly away from home.
"We are going to have to play strongly without the ball. Victor Wanyama can play at the back or in midfield, depending on the opposition, but we are still short of a centre-half.

"You can see that. If we get an injury to Thomas Rogne, Kelvin Wilson or Charlie Mulgrew - we only have three recognised central defenders - then obviously it is a priority to try to bring one in quickly."
Goals from Gary Hooper and Anthony Stokes saw the Hoops end their tour with a 2-1 win over Vfb Aalen, which followed a 1-0 defeat by Stuttgart Kickers and goalless draw with FC Augsburg.

    Milan move interests Dzeko
    Last Updated: July 18 2012, 13:04 BST

There have been discussions and they are continuing, claims agent

Edin Dzeko: Keen on Milan move
Manchester City striker Edin Dzeko is a target for AC Milan following the exit of Zlatan Ibrahimovic, according to his agent.
Ibrahimovic reached an agreement to join Paris St Germain on Tuesday and Milan are believed to be looking for a replacement.
Dzeko was behind Sergio Aguero, Carlos Tevez and Mario Balotelli in the battle for a first-team place at City by the end of last season and Roberto Mancini has been linked with more signings.

The Premier League champions are monitoring the situation with Arsenal's Robin van Persie and Dzeko would appear to be a player they would allow to leave.
The 26-year-old Bosnia international's agent Sead Susic claims there is interest from Milan and it is a switch that his client would welcome.
"Edin would love to play in Serie A and with the Rossoneri," Susic told spaziomilan.it. "A move to AC Milan is more than possible.

"There have been discussions and they are continuing. Let's see what will happen in the coming days.
"After the departure of Ibrahimovic, Dzeko would be an ideal replacement and it would be a wonderful experience, but we are waiting to see what happens.
"Is there a 70 per cent chance that he ends up at Milan? Maybe."
