BBC tasks new Hispanic programming head with Latin America growth

BBC Worldwide Channels announced today the appointment of Gareth Williams as Latin America & U.S. Hispanic vice president of programming.
Based in Miami, Williams will be assuming his new role by the end of July, reporting directly to Angel Peche in the general manager's office. He will oversee the programming team in Miami, Mexico City and Sao Paulo, tasked with identifying new opportunities to grow the network's portfolio. he news comes on the heels of the BBC announcing its fiscal results, which saw international sales rise significantly.
He will also be responsible for leading programming efforts, including programme strategy, scheduling and production for the channels portfolio in the region: BBC HD, BBC Entertainment and preschool channel CBeebies.
Williams was formerly senior vice president of content and production for South America, and has worked for BBC Worldwide and UKTV for the past 11 years.
"Gareth brings with him a deep knowledge of the Latin American TV market and audiences," said Peche, general manager of Latin America & U.S. Hispanic at BBC Worldwide Networks. "His fluency in Spanish and Portuguese, added to his ample understanding of the region's different idiosyncrasies, gives us assurance that he has the pulse of our viewers, and will, with his programming background and breadth of production experience, prove invaluable to our continued growth in the region."
