Following the ratings success of the recent European Football Championship, Mediaset España is now "obliged" to consider the purchase of rights for the World Cup in Brazil in 2014.
The conquest of Spain at Euro 2012 became the most watched game in Spain, with 18.481 million viewers for a 83.4% share.
However, the director of Mediaset has recognised that when it bought the rights to the Euro, "The market situation was different from the time of issue", and now the ad market "has been very low, as the situation country's economy (sic)."
Rights and broadcasting costs have amounted to just under €70 million and the company hopes that Villanueva hopes that the International Federation of Football Associations (FIFA) is aware "of the global economic situation" and "check prices" for World Cup bid rights.
