sportdigital acquires French and Italian football rights

German sports channel sportdigital has secured the live broadcast rights to French first-division football league Ligue 1 for the 2012/13 season.

Two to three matches will be screened live each week, supplemented by a weekly highlights show, according to the Hamburg-based pay-TV broadcaster. Financial details have not been disclosed.

Kick-off for the live coverage will be on 10 August 2012 with the game between champion Montpellier HSC against FC Toulouse, which sportdigital will show live from 20.40 CET. On 11 August 2012, the channel will screen the match between Paris St.-Germain with top player Zlatan Ibrahimovic against FC Lorient from 20.55 CET live.

Furthermore, sportdigital has renewed its live rights for Italian league Serie A for the 2012/13 season. Each weekend, two matches will be shown live. There'll also be a weekly highlights programme.
