    United agree RVP deal

Arsenal striker will travel to Manchester to finalise personal terms
    Last Updated: August 16, 2012

Robin van Persie: Manchester United have agreed terms with Arsenal over striker

Manchester United have agreed terms with Premier League rivals Arsenal for the transfer of star striker Robin van Persie.
The Holland international is now due to travel to Manchester on Thursday to finalise personal terms and undergo a medical with the Red Devils before putting pen to paper on an anticipated four-year deal.

Van Persie announced shortly after Euro 2012 that he would not be extending his contract with the Gunners, which has just 12 months left to run.
"Manchester United is pleased to announce it has reached agreement with Arsenal Football Club for the transfer of Robin van Persie."
Manchester United Quotes of the week
That sparked a scramble for his services, with United, Manchester City and Juventus all tabling offers for the 29-year-old former Feyenoord player.
    Medical

Sir Alex Ferguson's side moved to the head of the queue and have now reached an agreement with Arsene Wenger's men, with the fee believed to be around 24million.
A statement on United's official website read: "Manchester United is pleased to announce it has reached agreement with Arsenal Football Club for the transfer of Robin van Persie.
"The deal is subject to a medical and the agreement of personal terms. A further announcement will be made in due course."
Arsenal issued a similar statement which added: "Van Persie will travel to Manchester on Thursday in order to agree personal terms and complete a medical ahead of the proposed move."
    Bid

The Red Devils initially lodged a bid for the 29-year-old last month, but this was turned down by the Gunners amid further interest from Manchester City and Juventus.
However, City never followed up an initial inquiry, while Van Persie made it clear he was not interested in a move to Serie A.

Having taken the unusual step of confirming a bid on United's pre-season tour of South Africa, Ferguson is then said to have intervened in a deal that was in danger of stalling by speaking directly with Wenger.
Although the Frenchman did not want to sell his star man to a rival club, he realised the Gunners were in a tricky situation, with some supporters turning against their former favourite during a pre-season encounter with Cologne on Sunday.

Wenger - I had no choice

Arsenal manager says Giroud and Podolski are in place to cover him
    Last Updated: August 16, 2012 7:56am

Arsene Wenger: Says he had no choice

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger insists he had no choice but to agree to sell Robin van Persie to Manchester United.
The Old Trafford giants confirmed on Wednesday evening that they had agreed terms with Arsenal - understood to be 24million - for the Dutchman.

Van Persie is now set to travel to the North West to undergo a medical and finalise personal terms with United.
And Wenger insists he had no option but to sell van Persie because he had just a year left on his current deal and he had already refused to sign a new deal.
"He is at Manchester United, unfortunately for us. The transfer was finalised in the afternoon," said Wenger whilst working for French TV station TF1 on Wednesday.

"It's never great to lose players of that quality but he only had a year contract so we do not have a choice."
Wenger then stated that he had already signed Olivier Giroud and Lukas Podolski to cover for van Persie's departure.
"We have already recruited since we Giroud and Podolski who originally were intended to offset the departure of van Persie," he concluded.

    Fener deny Sneijder interest

Turkish club make statement to insist no bid has been lodged

Wesley Sneijder: Has not been the subject of an approach from Fenerbahce

Fenerbahce have insisted there is no truth in reports suggesting they have made an offer for Inter Milan midfielder Wesley Sneijder.
Reports in Turkey on Wednesday suggested that the Dutch playmaker was on his way to the Sukru Saracoglu.
But the Super Lig runners-up subsequently released an official statement, which denied any formal approach for the 28-year-old Holland international.

Quoted on Tuttosport, the statement read: "In relation to what appeared in Aksam, we must point out it is not completely true that Fenerbahce are interested in Sneijder.
"Recent reports that have appeared in newspapers such as Aksam have been false.
"Every new signing will be announced through the club's official channels."
Sneijder signed a five-year contract extension with the Nerazzurri in 2010 but has been linked with a number of clubs this summer, including Real Madrid and big-spending Russians Anzhi Makhachkala.

    Valencia agree Valdez deal

Paraguay striker set for loan Mestalla move ahead of permanent deal

Nelson Valdes: Former Hercules striker is set for a Spanish return with Valencia

Valencia have reached an agreement with Russian side Rubin Kazan to sign Paraguay striker Nelson Valdez on loan with a view to a permanent deal.
The deal is subject to the player, 28, passing a medical, the La Liga club said in a statement on their official website.
It marks a quick return to Spanish football for Valdez, who only joined Rubin Kazan from Segunda Division side Hercules last August.

"It was a tough job sealing the signing because Nelson is a highly-valued player at Rubin," said Valencia's sporting director Braulio Vazquez.
"He is a very important player for us because he is a forward who fits very well with the players we have.
"He has strength, commitment, speed and gets forward very well. He will also give us goals. We have a lot of confidence in him."

    Kjaer set to stay put

Lack of interest will see defender remain at Wolfsburg

Simon Kjaer: Linked with a number of clubs, but no move has materialised

Simon Kjaer looks set to start the 2012/13 campaign with Wolfsburg, with the Bundesliga outfit having failed to find a buyer for the centre-half.
The Denmark international was expected to be on his way out of the club this summer after suffering a falling out with coach Felix Magath.
Kjaer spent last season on loan at Serie A side Roma as a result of the rocky working relationship.
The former Palermo defender had hoped to see that agreement made permanent, offering him a route back to Italy.
No move has materialised, though, and a number of other clubs said to be keen on Kjaer have yet to make a formal approach.
    Talented

That means the 23-year-old will start the season with Wolfsburg, with Magath hinting that he is prepared to put past differences to one side and start afresh.
"We wanted to do something but the market is not in our favour at the moment, so nothing will happen," he told Wolfsburger Allgemeine.
"I have spoken with Simon and told him to adapt to the situation.
"Simon is a talented player with a lot of different qualities and I don't see why he couldn't be successful here if he does well."

    Bayern deny Martinez deal

Bundesliga outfit yet to agree a fee for Spain international
    Last Updated: August 16, 2012 12:19pm

Javi Martinez: Continues to be heavily linked with a move to Bayern Munich

Bayern Munich remain keen on Athletic Bilbao midfielder Javi Martinez, but have refuted reports suggesting an agreement has been put in place.
Speculation in Germany had suggested that Bayern were willing to meet Martinez's buy-out clause, with a transfer package worth some 40million (31.3m) pieced together.

Bilbao have maintained throughout the summer that they are not prepared to lower their asking price for the Spain international.
Bayern have so far refused to bow to their demands and insist that reports suggesting otherwise are wide of the mark, with discussions regarding a deal ongoing.

"There has been no movement in this affair, from our point of view," media officer Markus Horwick told Deutsche Presseagentur.
"It's still the case that we will not pay 40m as a transfer fee for the player."
    Interesting

Bayern director Matthias Sammer has echoed Horwick's words, claiming that the Bundesliga giants will only bring Martinez on board if a compromise can be reached with Bilbao.
"The fact is that Javi Martinez is a very interesting player," he told Kicker-Sportmagazin.
"It is also a fact that sport and economics have to fit together.
"It will be back on once we find a way of preventing him from becoming a record transfer for this club. I do not see that happening."

    Rams finalising Freeman deal

Defender close to completing Pride Park switch
    Last Updated: August 16, 2012 12:37pm

Kieron Freeman: Derby are set to pip Notts County to his signature

Sky Sports understands that Derby are close to completing a deal for Kieron Freeman, with the youngster set to join from arch-rivals Nottingham Forest.
Sky Sports revealed on Monday that the Rams had leapt to the front of the queue for the promising defender.
Freeman has expressed a desire to move on this summer after finding his route to first-team football blocked at the City Ground.

Forest will not stand in his way and are prepared to part with the Wales U21 international.
Notts County had been hoping to reach an agreement after seeing Freeman impress during a loan spell at Meadow Lane last season.
Derby are, however, set to secure his signature, with Nigel Clough making no secret of his desire to bring in defensive reinforcements.
It is understood that Freeman will undergo a medical on Friday before crossing the East Midlands divide and completing a switch to Pride Park.

    Saints bid for Phillips

Blackpool consider 6million offer for winger
    Last Updated: August 16, 2012 1:11pm

Matt Phillips: Subject of a big-money bid from Southampton

Sky Sports understands Southampton have made a 6million bid for Blackpool winger Matt Phillips.
Saints boss Nigel Adkins confirmed earlier this week his interest in Phillips and he has now firmed it up with a bid.
Phillips' future at Bloomfield Road has been the subject of speculation all summer with a number of clubs chasing his services.
The likes of Everton and Sunderland have been linked with Phillips, but Premier League new boys Southampton are hoping to lure the Scotland international to St Mary's.

Phillips caught the eye during Blackpool's campaign in the Premier League and the flying winger also impressed last term by helping the Seasiders reach the Championship play-off final.
Blackpool are reluctant to lose the 21-year-old, but they will find it hard to reject Southampton's big-money offer which would represent a major profit from what they paid for him to Wycombe two years ago.

    Wolves offer starlet new deal

    Ismail offered three-year extension
    Last Updated: August 16, 2012 11:58am

    Sky Sports
understands Wolves have offered highly-rated young prospect Zeli Ismail a new deal at Molineux.

Ismail, who has come through the ranks at Molineux, is regarded as one of the most exciting talents in England after catching the eye for Wolves and England's youth sides.

A host of Premier League clubs have been keeping tabs on the 18-year-old's situation with the likes of Manchester City, Chelsea, Fulham, West Ham and Queens Park Rangers all credited with an interest in him.

Ismail is entering the final year of his contract at Wolves and the Molineux club have moved to fend off the interest in the player by opening talks over a contract extension.
Wolves are determined to keep hold of their prize asset and they are thought to have offered the winger a new three-year deal at Molineux.

    Newcastle complete Anita signing
    Last Updated: August 16 2012, 12:21 BST

Newcastle have completed the signing of Ajax midfielder Vurnon Anita for an undisclosed fee.

Vurnon Anita: Completes move to Newcastle
The 23-year-old Holland international has signed a five-year deal at the Sport Direct Arena.
Magpies manager Alan Pardew told the club's official website: "We are delighted to secure the services of Vurnon."
Anita, who can also play as a full-back, joined the Ajax youth academy in 1999 and made his first-team debut in 2006.
Born on the island of Curacao, he had established himself as a key player at the Amsterdam Arena, winning back-to-back Eredivisie titles in 2011 and 2012.

Pardew added: "He is an exceptionally talented footballer with great technical ability, which is exactly what I'm looking at in a player.
"And, at 23 years old, we hope his best years are at Newcastle.
"He has come through the Ajax youth system which is world renowned for bringing up players the right way, and I am sure he will fit seamlessly into the squad of players we have here.
"Vurnon has done his pre-season, and indeed already played one competitive game, so he's up to speed and ready to play when I need him."
