WSJ: Apple in talks with cable MSOs for set-top

The Wall Street Journal is reporting that Apple is approaching cable MSOs to provide them with an "exclusive" IP set-top box, possibly in return for a 30% transactional revenue share for VOD purchases.

The pay-TV operators have so far not shown interest, likely balking at the revenue share, the WSJ said, citing unnamed sources.
Apple already sells the $99 Apple TV box for accessing online video and is rumoured to be developing a smart TV of its own. Considering the increasing trend to TV Everywhere and pay-TV operators embracing over-the-top (OTT) content themselves, it would make sense for Apple to try to work with them more closely, just as TiVo, Xbox and others have done.
