Germany's largest cable operator Kabel Deutschland has filed a lawsuit against Bayerischer Rundfunk (BR), the Bavarian affiliate of public broadcaster ARD, to force the public broadcasters to continue paying carriage fees for cable distribution of their channels.
The court case is scheduled to take place on 25 October 2012, a spokeswoman of Munich's district court told news agency epd.
Kabel Deutschland also prepares lawsuits against all other ARD affiliates and public broadcaster ZDF. With the legal action which was announced in July 2012 the cable operator wants to oblige the public broadcasters to pay carriage fees.
ARD and ZDF cancelled their carriage contracts with effect 31 December 2012 to save the around €60 million they currently pay along with ARTE each year to the three large cable companies.
