Only weeks after the over the top (OTT) leader launched in Scandinavia, Netflix is to be challenged by HBO with a Nordic service that will launch in mid-October.
Available on a non-subscription basis for online users in Denmark, Sweden, Norway and Finland from mid-October at a price thought to be €10 per month, HBO Nordic will leverage content from HBO’s parent Time Warner and Parsifal International offering programmes such as Game of Thrones and Boardwalk Empire.
The service will be headed by CEO Hervé Payan who told the Reuters News Agency s that offering the online service is one way HBO could grow its digital pay-TV subscriptions in the region.
