Cyfra+, n back down in PPV row

The Polish DTH platforms Cyfra+ and n have decided not to offer coverage of today’s (Friday, September 7) 2014 World Cup qualifying game between the national team and Montenegro on a pay-per-view basis.
In a statement, Canal+ Cyfrowy, the operator of Cyfra+, said it had taken the action due to ambiguities in the Broadcasting Act, specifically in the event when no national broadcaster had acquired the rights to show such games to viewers free of charge.
Earlier this week, the National Broadcasting Council (KRRiT) had said that such games were classified by the Act as “major events” and should be made available for free.
Cyfrowy Polsat and several cable operators are still expected to show the game on a pay-per-view basis.
