As connected TV rises inexorably many see app stores as a growing way in which content is accessed and to address this trend, Accedo has entered into a partnership with NDS to enable an end-to-end solution for STB apps and widgets.

The enabler of Smart TV and IPTV apps says that by teaming up with the new Cisco subsidiary, as using NDS MediaHighway STB software, it can enable pay-TV operators to launch their own app store, manage application lifecycle, contextualise content, and, most importantly, monetise apps through a connected set-top-box.

It will use the NDS Service Delivery Platform so that operators will be able to enhance the subscriber experience with applications that are contextual to content being viewed. In addition it will utilise Accedo’s Application Sphere management platform which provides a customisable front-end user interface with multiple existing applications, as well as a scalable and secure back-end system.

“We are excited to be working with NDS on this joint solution,” commented Michael Lantz, CEO, Accedo. “NDS has extensive experience providing end-to-end software solutions for the pay television industry, which enable advanced services. The combination of NDS software and Accedo’s application management experience will be a valuable solution for operators looking to embrace interactive TV.”
