Discovery en Espanol is celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month with a positive look at succeeding in the United States: the premiere of an original documentary production, Gen H (Hispanic Generation), follows three successful, young professionals living in the United States on their journey of realising their dreams.
"This Hispanic Heritage Month, we decided to focus on a new generation of Hispanics that clearly influence our nation and are a source of inspiration," said Eileen Pineiro, director of content at Discovery en Espanol. "With the premiere of our original production Gen H and the rest of our programming lineup, we want to expose the positive force and drive of this young group that follow their own rules and that, with their hard work and vision, have the power to choose their destiny."
Gen H showcases the lives of Nina, Jose and Juan Felipe, three young innovators that have accomplished their dreams of flourishing in a new country. The documentary follows them on their daily life, revealing the diversity of their activities and the challenges they must face every day to reach their creative and professional goals.
Nina Johnson, a young woman of Guatemalan roots, is the owner of Gallery Diet, an art gallery in the area of Wynwood, Miami, where she offers opportunities to up and coming talent. She is also the founder of The Women of Wynwood, an organisation dedicated to employing women to improve the neighborhood.
Jose Mendin, a Puerto Rican chef and entrepreneur, is the co-owner of four successful restaurants and a nominee for a prestigious James Beard Award for Best Chef.
Juan Felipe Valencia was born in Colombia and immigrated to the United States as a teenager. He has accomplished a successful career composing music for television and film. He currently resides in Los Angeles and is the front man for the rock band Old Wives Tales.
Gen H (#genh) has a microsite www.tudiscovery.com/genh that includes exclusive interviews with the protagonists, photographs and behind the scenes videos of the documentary filming.
Also, as part of the initiatives for Hispanic Heritage Month, Discovery en Espanol has created a series of spots titled La Fuerza Hispana, playing tribute to what it calls "the passion, courage and will of Latinos."
Gen H will premiere on Saturday, 22 September.
