Mondia Media plans German Hulu

Hamburg-based multimedia service provider Mondia Media wants to set up an online video portal in Germany modelled on the American Hulu over the top (OTT) platform.
The offering, which will launch by the end of the year, will act as a central hub on which viewers can watch full-length programmes they missed on television.
The platform will be open to all German TV broadcasters. "Portals with digital content are our core business worldwide, therefore we possess all skills and knowledge required to develop new product," said Volker Glaeser, Chief Operating Officer at Mondia Media. "We invite all broadcasters – both commercial and public – to participate in this project."
The two main commercial TV broadcasters RTL and ProSiebenSat.1 recently decided not to further pursue their planned joint video portal after their legal action against the blocking of the venture by the German cartel office remained unsuccessful.
Mondia Media emerged out of Arvato Mobile, a former subsidiary of German media group Bertelsmann, in November 2011. The provider of digital entertainment content is owned by investment company Mondia Ltd. and Abu Dhabi Group.
