The Peruvian Government is to start construction of its third fibre network that will cover almost all of the country, involving an investment of $400million.
Raúl Pérez Reyes, Peru's deputy minister of Communications, revealed that the deployment of the fibre optics network will provide services to 190 of the country’s 195 provincial capitals. Th networks will be managed by a number of private firms such as Telefónica of Spain and America Movil's Claro. "Even the capitals that cannot be reached we will get fibre through Internet satellite or microwave", remarked Reyes.
Construction will begin in late 2013, culminating in 2016, due to the "complexity of the territory through which pass the infrastructure," the deputy minister added.
