Central Region dominates poll, with Nebraska-Kearney on top

For the first time in nearly seven years, the Nebraska-Kearney volleyball team is ranked No. 1 in the AVCA Top 25 poll.
The Lopers, off to a 7-0 start, moved past Central Region rival Concordia-St. Paul this past weekend as the Golden Bears (6-1) fell to now 24th-ranked West Florida in four sets. UNK, ranked second last week, went 4-0 in its own fall tournament.
This marks the 20th week in program history the Lopers occupy the nationís top spot and the 240th-week Kearney is in the AVCA poll. UNK was last ranked No. 1 on November 21st, 2005.
This week, UNK received 776 points and 20 of the 32 first place votes. The next four teams are from the Central Region: SW Minnesota State (755; five first place), Concordia-St. Paul (712; five first place), Minnesota-Duluth (695; one first place) and Washburn (650).
Other Central teams in the poll are Central Missouri (8th), Minnesota State-Mankato (11th), Wayne State (18th), and Minnesota State-Moorhead (T-22nd). The Lopers beat Mankato, 3-1, Saturday.
