German public broadcaster SWR has commissioned ND SatCom with the delivery of satellite uplink technology for six SNG trucks.

The vehicles will be used for regional news coverage in southern Germany via satellite news gathering (SNG), the subsidiary of Astrium Services announced in Friedrichshafen.

The deal signed with the second-largest regional ARD affiliate covers hardware and software based on IP platform Skywan and antenna standard Skyray Light for the secure and cost-efficient transmission of video footage via satellite.

"The Skywan technology is ideally suited for the improvement of our distribution infrastructure," said Georg Fuss, head of innovation and project management at SWR. "The extremely efficient and scalable solution can easily be adjusted to future technical requirements."
