La Grande Battle from France Télévisions (FTV) won the first Prize of the seventh Eurovision Creative Forum, an event showcasing public service broadcasters’ innovative programme formats across all genres.
Produced by Step by Step, Presto Media and Banijay for France 2, La Grande Battle is a prime-time talent show mixing contemporary and classical music with broad appeal. Three hundred contestants are selected by internet users and subsequently ten finalists battle it out against a symphonic orchestra comprising 90 musicians. First broadcast on December 2011, the show has attracted 2.8 million people and an 11.7 % audience share. It has been renewed for a second season.
The six other best formats were factual entertainment DR’s Detektor, NHK’s live quiz show Socrates' Human Resources, TRT’s Living photos (Turkey), SRF’s Our Hamlet! (Switzerland), KBS’s Masterpiece Scandal (Korea) and VRT’s Wild Boar (Belgium).
The event was hosted by public broadcaster ZDF and organized by the EBU in cooperation with the Eurovision Formats Core Group (SVT, ZDF, VRT, RTÉ, NPO, RTVSLO, France Télévisions and BBC).
