Furthering the credentials of the hybrid interactive standard, Alticast and Icareus have revealed the results of HbbTV tests with Polish public TV broadcaster TVP in Warsaw.

TVP is one of the biggest public TV broadcasters in Central and Eastern Europe and commands majority of market share of the TV audience in Poland.

The partners believe that the ‘success’ of thetrials demonstrates the viability of HbbTV for the Polish DTT market, as well as that for all of Europe, and the capabilities of both the Icareus CS100 playout carousel and HbbTV applications, and Alticast’s middleware solution.

“Our middleware solution supports HbbTV because we believe it will continue to grow in importance across Europe as the industry looks for a standard that can truly unite traditional broadcast TV with the new wave of services delivered over broadband,” said Thomas Jung, CMO, Alticast. “It’s exciting to be working with such a trusted partner as Icareus to trial out HbbTV services in Poland and we’re really enthusiastic about the positive results. Connected TV’s march continues as consumers crave more exciting experiences and we fully expect HbbTV to play a huge part in this trend in Europe and beyond.”

“Once again we have teamed up with Alticast because we believe that through our partnership we can demonstrate HbbTV as the standard of the choice for interactive TV in Europe,” added Toni Leiponen, Managing Director, Icareus Group.
